Where’s the best place to live in the US? The latest poll says California, Florida, then Hawaii. Which city is the best place to live? Honolulu shows up in 7th place. Both were down a notch from last year’s poll.
The Harris Poll also puts Hawaii as the top destination for baby boomers.
Why does Hawaii rank so high? Blame it on the sun, the beach, and Hawaii’s weather, and not any policy by government or opportunity by local business. Hawaii remains a preferred destination despite their efforts.
Pacific Business News reported on the Harris Poll but didn’t seem to understand the ups and downs of surveys. For example, PBN reported that Honolulu moved up to 7th place, when it actually moved down from 6th place. They also reported that Hawaii dropped from 2nd to 3rd place, which is accurate. Go figure.
What’s the attractive in Hawaii? The nearly 2,700 adults in the poll seem to prefer access to a beach. California, Florida, and Hawaii are the states with the most beaches.
What’s the most desirable city to live in? New York City. Desirable by whom?
Others on the list include, in order, San Diego, Seattle, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Orlando, then Honolulu. The criteria for “desirable city” must be skewed severely. Not one of those cities besides Honolulu has a decent beach. Two are more expensive to live in than Honolulu. One is hotter than hell. Really. Another never sees the sun. And in another you have to speak Spanish to get a job.
Oh, wait. Now I understand. The Harris Poll survey was conducted online. Since it’s acceptable to lie online, how much faith should we put into New York being the most desirable city in the US?
Who wants to live in Hawaii? Baby boomers dreaming while surfing the ‘net.
