More bad news for Hawaii. NCL couldn’t make it work so they’re pulling ships out of Hawaii faster than Hillary Clinton can empty her bank account.
Wasn’t it just a few years ago that cruises were all the rage? We loved the Star. We loved NCL and NCL loved us. No more. Not only is the love affair over, but NCL is leaving town for greener pastures. Hawaii just isn’t green enough.
Say goodbye to the Pride of Hawaii. That ship has sailed. We hardly knew ye. Now say goodbye to the Pride of Aloha, ready to depart the islands in May.
What happened?
Has the economy become so bad so quickly that we don’t know it but the rats on ships do. They leave sinking ships, you know. I don’t know where they go, but they go. So NCL is going, going, but not quite gone.
The Pride of America stays.
Public relations folks don’t seem to understand that we can translate their material. For example, Andy Stuart, NCL’s Executive VP of Marketing said this:
Quote: “Withdrawing Pride of Aloha was an extremely difficult but necessary commercial decision; however we see a strong future for the long-term flagship in Hawaii, Pride of America.”
Translation: “We were losing money hand over fist and had to do something to stop the bleeding red ink. Either we blame it on losses in Hawaii or admit that we don’t know how to make money in the most attractive cruise ship are in the Pacific.”
Quote: “In Pride of America, we have created a commercially successful modern U.S. Flag cruise ship home ported in Hawaii– the first time that has ever been achieved.”
Translation: “Now we can raise rates on one ship and finally make some money. It won’t cover our losses right away so we’ll keep the ship around for a few years.”
Do I see a trend here?
