TV reporter Ron Mizutani got his job back at KHON-TV. He left the station to work for Hawaiian Telcom. Then he quit. Now he gets his old job back.
What happened?
You’re kidding, right? I worked for GTE HawaiianTel back in the day and I can say that working for the phone company is no picnic. Unless you don’t mind the stings from 1,000 army ants every day. To those dedicated employees at the phone company who keep the phones running, night and day, I salute you. Working for army ants dressed up in the guise of executive management in a non-functional corporate world is not a picnic. For some employees there it must be like being eaten alive. Every day until retirement.
The television news business is much different than corporate communications in a phone company. One is a valued service and an honored profession, though the pay is poor unless you’re an 800-pound gorilla who reads news. The other is what’s for lunch for army ants who know only one thing. Bite you.
I’m glad that Ron got his job back so soon after leaving Hawaiian Telcom. The job market is getting tougher every day. Now, if it would only get tough for Jai Cunningham I’d be able to take the plugs from my ears when I watch the news.
