About

Hawaii Blogger is about Hawaii, a string of beautiful islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Farther from a major land mass than any other place on earth, the isles of Hawaii are more than a mere paradise of wonderful weather, beautiful beaches, and stunning mountains.

The people of Hawaii are a unique blend of diverse cultures; Hawaiian, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Korean, US, and others from the islands and nations which rim the Pacific. Each island has a different character and flavor.

Honolulu and the island of Oahu could be considered schizophrenic; busy, cosmopolitan, made of many small neighborhoods.

Maui is the land of dreams. Kauai is ancient and lush and green. The Big Island of Hawaii is raw and untamed and new. Tiny Molokai and Lanai differ in character; the former holds steadfast to the ways of old, while the latter looks for a new identity beyond pineapples.

More than the beauty of the islands, the people make up what Hawaii is today, and Hawaii is changing rapidly.

Life in the islands of paradise comes at a price. Real estate ranks with the most expensive in the US, as does gasoline and electricity. Food in Hawaii is usually more expensive than most locations in US. Rice is less expensive, pineapples are more expensive.

Tourism and the US military remain dominant revenue generators for the state’s economy. For many residents, regardless of background and culture, day to day life is an ongoing struggle.

Hawaii Blogger’s purpose is to present that part of Hawaii not often seen by tourists, seldom reported by mainstream media. The site is edited daily by Ron McElfresh.
